Winter
Winter in The Forks Area, Maine is the winter enthusiast’s playground.Snowmobiling, X-country Skiing, Snowshoeing are all actively enjoyed. Over 250 miles of groomed snowmobile trails makes The Forks area is a destination spot for your winter fun. Home to Coburn Mountain, Maine’s highest groomed snowmobile trail at 3750 feet! We interconnect with the 12,000 miles of Maine’s ITS Trails. Many different types of lodging and dining are available locally from Bed and Breakfasts, to full service Inn’s, to motels, housekeeping cabins, and condominiums. Spring
Spring is in the air in The Forks Area, Maine. Ice is melting, The trees are budding. The early wildflowers are opening in the woods. The songbirds are coming home. April 1 brings the beginning of fishing season. Brook Trout, Salmon, Bass all are waiting for you. Consider hiking our many trails, visit Moxie Falls, or climb the Appalachian Trail up Pleasant Pond Mountain. Discover Mosquito and Bald Mountains. Day hikes to the top are great with spectacular views of the western mountains. Deer and Moose and other wildlife are moving and Eagles and Osprey are flying overhead. Great photo opportunities often occur. Whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing all begin. Melting ice and spring runoffs make for some wild fun on the Kennebec and Dead Rivers. Many different types of lodging and dining are available locally, from Bed and Breakfasts, to full service Inn’s, to motels and condominiums, to camping at Campgrounds. Summer
Summer in The Forks Area, Maine’s Western Mountains provides endless adventure. Beautiful sunshine, scenic vistas that go on forever, wildlife and wonderful waterfalls to explore. Bring your suntan lotion and careen down a wild river or simply spend the day floating and swimming on the milder sections. Canoeing, Whitewater Rafting, Kayaking, Tubing, Pontoon or Seadoo cruising and fishing all take place daily on the Kennebec and Dead Rivers or any of our many lakes or remote ponds. Fishing is also great in surrounding ponds such as Moxie or Indian or Wyman Lake. The surrounding mountains are beautiful to explore by hiking, Mt. Biking, or Rock Climbing. Finish your days adventure with a great meal and a brew at one of the areas great restaurants or pubs. Many different types of lodging are available locally, from Inn’s, Motels,Sporting Camps, Cabins, Resorts and Campgrounds. Come join us and create a Summer vacation you will always remember.
Fall
Fall in The Forks Area, Maine has the best of all the seasons. The days are sunny, long and lazy; the nights are cool; a perfect combination for that hiking and camping trip you’ve been planning. The trees are turning their colors, oranges, reds, purples all blended over the hillsides.
Leaf Peeping is at it’s best. Whitewater rafting continues into October with the last run on the Dead River being the first weekend in October.Whitewater runs on the Kennebec River continue longer into October, as well as plenty of kayaking and canoeing throughout the region. Hunting season begins with Black Bear and bow season for Deer; followed by Moose season and regular Deer season. Upland Birds and duck hunting opportunities abound throughout the fall. A plethora of lodging and dining options are available locally. Many local outfitters offer a wide variety of guide services from half to full day, some complete with lodging and meals.
